Divertimento

Euphonium or Baritone Solo and Piano Accompaniment

Divertimento, was commissioned in 2009 by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama student Lynsey Orr to be included within her final year recital.

Scored for soloist with piano accompaniment, Divertimento is a ‘tour de force’ for any Euphonium or Baritone player.

It is written in four independent movements, each movement tailored to show varying capabilities of the solo instrument:

• Intrada - traditional in style with a pompous melody which conjures images of the English countryside
• Siciliana - a slow melancholic movement, full of emotion and a hint of an Irish air which is the homeland of the commissionee 
• Habanera - a rousing passionate movement written with technicallity in mind
• Rondo - a combination of Jazz and traditional melodic influences, requiring dexterity from the soloist
